Queen of Pentacles is a collection for those who are always creating and breaking themselves; though seen through the queer female view, anyone who’s experienced disorder, growth, and damage will find themselves re-reading these poems and discovering new interpretations, much like the tarot card herself. |
Queen of Pentacles is an exploration of all things feminine. It is grounded in the earth and tragic human experience but is reaching toward something higher. Carroll experiments with form, showing her mastery of everything from the demanding Sestina to meticulously crafted field work, and nearly everything in between. She proves that prose poems are, indeed, a lovely vessel for mediating a lyrical verse. Her language is concise, vivid, yet accessible. Definitely worth the read. |
